Phillips Tube Group traces its roots back to 1967 when the late Ralph Phillips opened a machine shop on the outskirts of Shelby, Ohio. Initially named Phillips Welding and Machine, Mr. Phillips realized the need locally for a machine shop. Within one year, he secured a government contract and work with local businesses.

Middletown Tube Works, Inc. was purchased from Armco Steel (now Cleveland Cliffs) in 1993 by the late Ralph Phillips. Mr. Phillips and his team immediately streamlined the company to provide highly formable coated and non-coated welded steel tube for industries including HVAC, appliance and others.

In 1997, Middletown Tube Works entered the automotive market by offering tubing for the fuel filler application to several Tier 1 and 2 suppliers.
In the years following, Middletown Tube Works expanded its automotive footprint by shipping to Mexico, and later Europe, Australia and China. In 2006, Middletown Tube Works upgraded its Quality system from QS 9000 to ISO/TS 16949 certified to better align with the needs of automotive.

The company also added new products to its automotive lineup, including seating components, exhaust components and fluid systems.

In 2009, following the passing of owner and founder Ralph Phillips, Angela Phillips became owner of all voting stock and is CEO of Phillips Tube Group, Inc.. In 2010, the company received its WBENC certification.

As a company, Phillips Tube Group continues to grow its capabilities as a business. As some competitors cease operations, Phillips Tube Group’s market share increases.
