Shelby Welded Tube began in 1967 when Ralph Phillips opened a machine shop on the outskirts of Shelby, Ohio. Initially named Phillips Machine and Welding, Mr. Phillips realized the need for a machine shop within the area.
“The largest of the Phillips Tube Group companies with over 250,000-square feet of production space and nine tube mills”
In his first year he secured several contracts for local machining jobs. By 1974, the business grew with the purchase of Barker Tower, a manufacturer of T.V. towers. This growth led to the company changing its name to Phillips Mfg. & Tower Co., which purchased steel tube to make residential TV antenna towers.
In 1980 Phillips Mfg. & Tower Co. entered the tubing world by way of the aftermarket exhaust industry. In 1984, we officially became the Shelby Welded Tube as the company expanded into other operations.
Today Shelby Welded Tube is the largest of the Phillips Tube Group companies with over 250,000-square feet of production space, nine tube mills and 115 employees.
