Hot rolled steel tube involves rolling the steel above its recrystallization temperature (typically over 1,700° F). This is usually the lowest cost option as it is not put through finishing options which “cold-roll” the material. Hot rolled is suitable for steel tube that’s only slightly bent or fabricated. It’s typically not available in thickness less than .058” or 1.4732mm, which is why it’s most commonly found in lightweight vehicle components.
